Aloha in Action

Aloha in Action

Story submitted by DM Corey Rappleye

I wanted to share a scary experience that happened a few weeks ago that also shows the Layton team came together to support their friend in her time of need. Carlee is one of our amazing Shift Leads at the Layton location. Her little brother Jayson was walking his bike in a crosswalk in Roy when a car ran a red light going 45 mph and hit him. Jayson stopped breathing and was life flighted to Primary Children’s hospital. The medical team was able to resuscitate him, but they needed to remove half of his skull due to swelling. Jayson was in a coma for a week and then he slowly woke from his coma! Despite what the doctors said, Jayson started moving and his family could even see his little personality come back. It was a miracle and an answer to many prayers. Jayson and his family still have a long road ahead of them. They will have to keep fighting through many struggles as he re-learns to walk, speak, and do basic motor functions.

Through this experience, there was so much aloha shown by the Layton team. They worked together to get Carlee’s shifts covered so she could be by her brother’s side day and night with her family after the accident. The team showed aloha by making her a card with their thoughts and prayers of support. Some of the team even went to the hospital to show support for Carlee and her family. Jayson was fortunately awake for our visit. Our team had put together a giant Easter basket for him and although he could not speak, we could tell how excited he was by his facial reactions and the small sounds he made. It was so wonderful to see how our Layton team pulled together to support and give aloha to Carlee and her family. It was definitely aloha in action.
